Tales of Migrations: Implementation of Koha Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) at The University of Agriculture Peshawar By Sher Afzal Khan
Keys Objective: This study tries to achieve some keys objectives and to enumerate the experience of the University of Agriculture Peshawar Library in the implementation of Koha ILS. The study will also identify some elements towards sufficient utilization of ILS and will be examine challenges and prospects to the implementation of the Koha ILS. The study will explain strategies towards migration of data from INMAGIC to Koha and will suggest strategies for successful implementation of Koha.
Methodology The paper describes the author’s practical experiences regarding implementation of the Koha open-source ILS. The data was migrated from INMAGIC to Koha through marc edit software. The installation was done through command line of the koha system RFID was integrated with koha through another custom built software. The 150000 recods of books and 3500 patrons were migrated from the INMAGIC to Koha.
Major findings
The main finding of this paper is: Koha is an international standard open source software and has those functionalities which can fulfill the library automation need of the all kind of libraries. Other librarians can easily implement Koha in their libraries. The data conversion of INMAGIC to koha will be help other librarian to implement koha in their libraries Integration with RFID is now easy for those who already use koha in their libraries.Implications/Conclusions
This paper will help librarians to implement Koha in a practical way to their libraries. The author implemented Koha at the AUP Library within six months, and the author used migrated data from Computerized Documentation System/Integrated Set of Information System to MARC-21 for books . This practice will influence librarians to learn Koha and implement it in heir libraries.
